angels for animals, a shelter in northeast ohio, had a vision to help animals in their community like never before. the plan was to add a 31,000 sq. foot wing to the shelter and build a legacy of caring that would last beyond our generation.

the campaign to fund the angel wing started in 2014 with the goal to raise 10 million dollars. through countless hours of hard work, fundraising, and generous donors, the angel wing broke ground in 2018 and was completed in 2020. the angel wing is a full-service vet clinic as well as a center for sick animals that need to recover before entering the shelter. to kick off the campaign, diane, angels’ founder, along with 2 veterinarians the cat manager and i, piled into a van with several shelter cats and dogs for a photo shoot in pittsburgh, pa, courtesy of the amazing tom cwenar. these photos were used for the vision brochure and fundraising materials.

phase 2 of the campaign started with the ground-breaking party in 2018. with the need to really amp up the donations, i created a hand-drawn wing with the words "let no animal be left behind” which was featured on tshirts, post cards, posters, flyers and social media ads. a large scale poster version was made for the party where people wrote their names or a special tribute inside it for a small donation. we also sold keepsake necklaces with a wing charm, donated by rag trader vintage.
